THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935)

The sinister Dr. Pretorious (Ernest Thesiger) persuades Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) to create a mate (Elsa Lanchester) for his Monster (Boris Karloff)! This legendary first sequel to FRANKENSTEIN (1931) is more witty and fantastic than horrific, with a fine cast, a lavish production, dazzling cinematography and Franz Waxman's wonderful score. Though the screenplay is even more faithful to Mary Shelley's tale, director James Whale's quirky humor makes the film more of a parody of the original than a true tale of terror. Karloff is afforded more opportunities to develop the character of the Monster, who is depicted more sympathetically than ever.
